Why the Right Area Code Matters
When signing up with a new cell phone provider, many people assume that they will automatically be assigned the area code that they specify. In New York City – and especially in Manhattan – competition is extremely fierce about one area code in particular: 212. Procuring a coveted place somewhere on the island of Manhattan does not guarantee you a phone number within the 212 area code. In fact, most cell phone providers are more apt to give you a number within the 347 or 646 area codes. Luckily, other options are available.
Getting the Number that You Want
Some people would argue that the area code of your cell phone number isn’t really all that important. However, certain area codes are more desirable than others – and the 212 area code is one of the most recognizable ones in the country. Rattling off a cell phone number that starts with those three elusive numbers feels good; it gives you a sense of pride in the neighborhood that you live in and links you to one of the most exciting urban areas in the world.
After relocating to Manhattan, many people sign up for new cell phone service in the hopes that their new numbers will begin with 212. Unfortunately, that’s not the way that things usually pan out. If you’re among the many disappointed people who’ve gone through this ordeal, it’s important to know that it’s perfectly possible to buy a phone number with a 212 area code. Is it worth it? Absolutely.
Don’t Settle
When you buy a new car, you’re not likely to make concessions regarding certain features; when you’re in the market for a new home, you’re probably not willing to make exceptions to certain rules. The phone number that you use is going to be a part of your life for a long time to come – doesn’t it make sense to get one that makes you happy? Buying a 212 phone number is easy, and the extra money that you’ll spend is more than worth it. In the end, you’ll be glad that you didn’t settle for less.
