How Many Area Codes Are In New York City?
New York City is one of the biggest cities in the entire world. Of the 22 area codes in the state of New York, 7 of them are in New York City. That should give you an idea of the sheer scale of the city. Here are the areas which correspond to their area codes.
Manhattan
New York City is seemingly always getting bigger, and it is certainly becoming more populated. The area that is seemingly expanding the most is Manhattan, but one of the most popular numbers in that area is still a Manhattan 212 number. Of the seven area codes in New York City, three of them are in Manhattan. They are as follows:
212
646
332
Interestingly enough, 332 is a more recent addition to the area codes of New York City as it was added in 2017 to meet the need for more phone numbers.
The Rest of the City
Manhattan is only one part of New York City. The other boroughs have their own area codes (though there is some overlap). There are unique area codes in place for The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.
They are as follows:
917: Covers all five boroughs of New York City and is used for both cell phones and landlines.
718: Covers the outer boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island.
347: An overlay for the outer boroughs, providing additional numbers alongside 718.
929: Another overlay for the outer boroughs, also providing more number availability.
These area codes are used throughout New York City to serve both landlines and mobile phones. It is expected that as the years go on and New York City’s population continues to increase that more area codes will inevitably be added.
